Okay, I didn’t know Galentine’s was a real thing until I experienced it myself. I’m still living in the moment, clearly! It is now February 15th and I’m still stuck on February 13th. So, my friend from work invited to an event that Curls (the hair company) was throwing. At first I wasn’t going to go. My first response is to never go out. But I figured, I’ve been working hard, started back school, I’m starting my own business, I DESERVE a night of fun. Honestly, what’s stopping me from having a little fun? Nothing. It’s not like I’ll be looking forward to the actual Valentine’s Day itself.
So, I decided to go. I invite my friend from outside of work, haven’t seen her in forever. My coworker invited her friend and we all head to this event. Soon as we get there, DRINK ON CURLS! Okayyyyy, I like the sound of that. If you know me, you know free is for ME! Do you hear me? So we all get a drink.
The aura was real calm. Dim lights, slow music. If I wasn’t mistaken I’d think they were trying to have us Drake and Drink. I was one call away from crying to every guy I ever met.
After the round of drinks we head to the back. It was set up so nicely. Couches, cute pillows. Games on the tables. They had my favorite game; UNO! And of course by the time we were halfway through the game I was too lit to remember if and how the game ended.
The hosts walked around serving cupcakes, cake pops, chocolate covered strawberries. They took pictures on those cute little Polaroid cameras. It was amazing. It was so nice to be in an environment of other women of color and actually get along. The experience was so new to me, but also inspiring.
I can’t lie Curls had the scene set up so nicely. The ladies hosting came around with cards that were conversation starters. Those cards are great for large groups of strangers, by the way. A great way to get the juices flowing.
My initial group of four eventually turned into a group of six. We met two girls, who both happened to move to New York from Massachusetts, and I can’t remember the other state. Nonetheless they were really nice, really dope. The vibe was so freaking amazing. One is also a successful YouTuber! I commend anyone who can get people to tune in. I’m boring AF, so I’m always amazed when I meet people with vibrant souls just full of life.
Honestly one of my best nights out. So cool seeing women of color lifting other women of color up. We were relating, we were laughing, we were empathizing for and with one another. It was like nothing I’ve ever seen or felt before. It was the best. I am so happy to have had the chance to bring in this day of love, by loving and adoring the women I met and the women I already know.
Hope you all had an amazing week full of love, light and inspiration. Until next year. 💕❤️
P.S. Shoutouts to Curls for putting an awesome event together! And their hair products are FAB ladies. Get you some. 🗣
